How GREAT Companies Are Born!
Growing Up in Direct Selling
Success and direct selling was a family affair for AtHome America co-founders and sisters, Lisa Brandau and Becky Wright, who grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago.
Their mother, Alma A. Krick was a very successful consultant for Queens Way Home Fashions for 18 years. This meant that as children, Becky and Lisa helped Alma with her Queens Way business by stamping catalogs, answering phones even occasionally modeling fashions at her in-home presentations!
Here Comes The Country Peddler Stores!

Brick and Mortar Beginnings
In 1982, as young moms with growing families of their own, Lisa and Becky absolutely loved decorating! They would often travel to country stores in search of those special home-decorating accessories that would make their houses home sweet home.
They began to think that if they had to travel to find great accessories, maybe other people did, too. So the sisters decided to open a store to meet that need the Country Peddler was born!
Their business style was warm and welcoming. They enjoyed getting to know their customers, offering a fabulous selection of products and mostly, being able to work together!!! Becky and Lisa ultimately went on to own a small chain of Country Peddler stores in the Chicago suburbs!
Direct Selling Is in the Blood!

The Country Store That Comes Right to Your Door!!!
Shortly after opening their first store, Alma posed a question that would change their lives and the lives of thousands of families across America: How are you going to serve all the people who live too far to travel to your store?
Enter The Country Peddlers and Company of America, a direct-selling company that offered country products through in-home demonstrations, called Gatherings.
Becky and Lisa were the company's first two "Peddlers," and they did their in-home presentations with their Hostesses and their family members and friends. Of course, this didnt last too long, as other women wanted to join the sisters and become Peddlers themselves!
The extension of Becky and Lisas company into the direct-selling industry presented yet another terrific opportunity! In addition to great decorating accessories, Lisa and Becky could offer others a home-based business opportunity the same great opportunity that allowed them to have a successful business. An opportunity that enabled them to keep their priorities of God, family and business exactly where they needed to be!
Between 1982 and 1987, the sisters opened two additional retail stores, running their stores alongside their direct-selling venture and they were busier than ever! In 1991, Becky and Lisa made the decision to sell their retail stores and focus exclusively on direct selling. This would allow them to reach out to even more people with their exciting business opportunity and help change their lives the way Becky and Lisa's lives had been changed!
