Did You Know?
Winter Skin Tips
Jack Frost may be nipping at your nose - and making it red and chapped in the process! This time of year is always rough on your skin - from chapped lips to peeling skin, what can you do to help you look your very best? Here are tips to help you get that glow back:
Keep hydrated! Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day - your skin needs this to help keep it from drying out.
Keep away from dryness! Think about having a humidifier in your home to help bring the level of humidity to a normal level.
Bathe or shower in lukewarm (not hot!) water. Hot water removes natural oil from the skin, making it dry and itchy.
Apply moisturizers to skin immediately after a bath or shower while your skin is still wet. It will help your skin absorb the moisture.
Limit your showers to 10 to 15 minutes.
Use mild soaps. Avoid deodorant soaps, as they tend to dry out the skin more.
When spending a lot of time outside, cover any exposed skin with a thin layer of petroleum jelly to protect skin from the elements.
Don't forget to protect your lips too! Look for a lip balm with SPF in it to help prevent chapped lips.
Be careful to not overuse harsh cleaning products (those that contain alpha-hydroxy acids or scrubbing agents). They exfoliate the top layer of the skin, which is good for dry skin, but they leave the new layer of skin unprotected to the harsh weather.
When the humidity is less than 50 percent, you should apply moisturizer two or three times throughout the day.
