Gallery Wall Remix
A modern gallery wall can go far beyond the traditional, precise arrangement of same-sized picture frames. We love bringing in artifacts that add dimension, texture and loads of personality.
Determining what works best when wall décor and signs are all different sizes can be a challenge, so we've rounded up three of our favorite inspirations that work for three different rooms-bedroom, kitchen and a living room. You've got to start somewhere!
Bedroom
Choosing a focal piece and a color scheme are the first two steps to creating your wall collage. In this bedroom example, the seafoam green frame is the focus with rustic brown and metallics to complement the décor. Empty frames are a unique twist to wall décor and create a blank canvas to add other décor items - a wreath, a smaller frame, or even to attach hanging floral vases.
Stylist Tip: Use antique-looking pieces like this gate panel or a shutter to add charm and a sense of warmth to a room.
Kitchen/Dining
Decorating in groupings of odd numbers is especially important with wall décor. Designers know an odd number of items tends to create an arrangement more pleasing to the eye. Arrange your pieces to guide viewers eyes within the gallery.
In this arrangement, you'll notice not only are there an odd number of items on the wall, but there are also three similar wall décor items intermingled. The cooking quotes above are all one set and the three metallic mirrors in the bedroom arrangement are as well. Two perks to this? A set starts you off with three great pieces, so you're well on your way to a complete collage, and it brings a sense of uniformity to your mix-match collage.
Living Room
The best part about taking a different approach to the traditional wall gallery is you can bring in pieces that are truly meaningful to you. Do you love to travel? Hang a map in the middle. Do you need a clock in an inconspicuous place to keep your family running on time? Add that, too. The possibilites are endless.
Stylist Tip: Laying out all your décor on the floor or your bed how you imagine it, and taking a picture of it, will make the process less stressful and more fun!
