They can make-do, but not great
I bought these for an existing curtain rod of a 1/2-inch diameter on one side and a 5/8-inch on the other. This product was the right size for our curtain rod - it was able to hold a grip to not allow movement (the screw helps). Our previous 1-inch hooks were too big, and everywhere else I looked was either too small or too big. BUT, the base attachment to the wall is terrible. First of all, you need to nail it to a wood stud; the holes are way too small to fit a screw. However, that shouldn't be an issue for windows, because there should be a header above every window. But when nailing, the angle of the nail holes (its about 45 degrees downward) and fact that they are at the top of the base of the bracket only causes the bracket to rotate upwards when nailing in. To prevent that from happening, I had to use two layers of "Gorilla" mounting tape (by putting on the back of the base before nailing in), which luckily we had. So, overall, other than the attachment to the wall, I was able to use three of these brackets to make it work for our 6-foot rod (btw: each pack does come with two). And they're cheap, so no issue there
