Purchased as a catch-all for keys, etc., size is perfect, works well in office too as in-box, etc. Color does not transfer. Recommend putting felt pads on base to avoid scratches/marring. That aside, this is an excellent basket -- At Home carries many types of baskets that are quality made, much less expensive than buying at other well known and/or big stores. There's literally a basket for every need in a variety of colors/uses.
